Meet the Team

Executive Director

Heather Beeson-Mazzone

Heather has a lifelong passion for animal care. She hopes to further the well-being of all animals, big and small. After completing her undergraduate degree in biology, she spent over 15 years as a veterinary technician. She also gained experience with numerous animal non-profit organizations in the zoological/sanctuary setting prior to founding Lotsa Heart.

She is primarily responsible for the day to day animal care on the property, but also supports the business side having completed her master’s degree in marketing.

She has ambitious goals for the long term future of Lotsa Heart and is excited to officially launch and continue having a positive impact on the animals and her community.

Shrek & Heather
Dave milo

President

David Beeson

Dave works in the investment field for a public pension plan helping secure the retirement benefits for public workers. He also volunteers on the Investment Committee for a non-profit Catholic community foundation. In their spare time, Dave and his wife Sonal share a passion for animals. They have a dog named Milo rescued from a shelter. Sonal works in information security for the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Dave enjoys taking their new baby Abby to the Zoo to visit mommy and see all the beautiful animals.

We are forever indebted to Dave and Sonal for all their help.

Jeroen

Treasurer

Jeroen Hofman

Originally from farm city Vlissingen in the Netherlands, Jeroen came to the U.S. as a pro soccer coach. It was through soccer he met Heather and Chris. Somehow every time we have a crazy idea, we get Jeroen involved.

It’s reassuring to know we can always count on the dog loving Hofman family to support our mad ideas.

Rena

Director

Rena Kerby

Rena has grown up with animals her entire life. From betta fish to alpacas, and everything in between. She has her bachelors degree in zoology and experience working at veterinary clinics.

Every dream achieved needs the support people close to you. The Kerby family are forever friends of the farm and we are grateful for all of their support.

Director

JoAnn York

JoAnn’s core passion is helping others and having a positive influence in her community. She enjoys building community relations and advocating for impactful causes. Giving back and fostering growth while working with local communities and national charities is important to her.

As a close longtime friend, she has supported and encouraged Heather every step of the way. We are thankful for everything and looking forward to continuing this journey with her family.

Chris & Timmy

Secretary

Chris Mazzone

In addition to helping out with the daily care, Chris serves as the secretary on the board of directors. He helps manage, monitor, and maintain Lotsa Heart’s digital presence. He’s still not sure how he went from Heather saying “I just want to adopt these two cute cats that need a home” to a 20 acre farm sanctuary, but he’s starting to think she may not be entirely truthful when she says “just one more”.
