Volunteer

Help provide protection, care, and love

Volunteers at Lotsa Heart Animal Sanctuary look after the animals and provide what they need most: personal attention, hands-on care and love. Thank you for your interest in helping provide the best environment for our animals!

Volunteering FAQ

  • Mucking/cleaning (animal living areas, feed bowls, water tanks, etc..)
  • Providing the animals with enrichment (grooming, petting, playing, training, exercising)
  • Preparing and serving food (grain, hay, straw, vitamins, snacks and treats, etc…)
  • Doing upkeep on the grounds and buildings (pasture maintenance, weeding, painting, building shelters, doing maintenance projects/repairs, etc.)
  • We would also love to talk to volunteers interested in helping on the business side (creating social media content, grant writing, events, etc…)
  • Animal Dander
  • Hay/Straw
  • Sawdust
  • Pollen/indigenous foliage

We currently are home to potbelly pigs, donkeys, mules, and cats. You are not obligated to care or interact with any animals you are not comfortable with, but all our animals are friendly and we’re happy to teach you how to interact safely with each one, even if you’ve never had experience with them.

Occasionally, local creatures like turtles, toads, lizards, mice may wander our way. In addition, while we try to protect the area from harmful insects, you are still likely to encounter the usual bugs you would expect on a farm (flies, spiders, bees/wasps, fire ants, worms).

For the safety of our volunteers and animals, we require that all volunteers be at least 16 years of age to volunteer. We hope to offer special programs and other ways for young people to get involved in the future.

Volunteer shifts can be between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m every day of the week. All volunteer shifts range from 2 to 4 hours long, but we can be flexible to fit your schedule.
