My name is Katniss, and I’ve survived something that I never thought I could. You see, I started life as a tiny potbelly pig, as a pet for a family. But as fate would have it, illness struck me down, and suddenly I was too much for them to handle.
I remember the day they left me by the roadside. Weak, barely able to move, I found myself lying next to the road, hoping for a miracle. I knew the end was near as the cold night crept in, and I could do nothing but crawl into the nearby woods and bury myself in leaves beside an old tire.
Just when I thought it was over and this might be my last night, my luck changed. Some kind souls stumbled upon me, hidden amongst the foliage. They must have seen something in my eyes, a spark of life refusing to go out. With gentle hands, they scooped me up and rushed me to safety.
At the vet hospital, I was met with warmth and care. They didn’t give up on me and neither did the surrounding pig community that donated to Lotsa Heart Animal Sanctuary to support my care. They fought for me as fiercely as Katniss Everdeen, whose name I proudly bear. Weeks passed in a blur of surgeries and treatments. I endured, determined to survive.
Finally, the day came when I was well enough to leave the vet’s care. I was going home—a new home, with people who chose me for who I am and what I can become. My days are now filled with love and attention, surrounded by others who appreciate the spirit of a fighter. I already heard some other pigs welcoming me from afar and I can’t wait to meet them up close when I’m fully healed.
I’ve learned that not all roads lead to despair. There are good hearts out there, ready to lift you up when you’re at your lowest. I’ve found hope again, thanks to the incredible support of the pig-loving community and the kindness of those who refuse to turn away from a soul in need.
As I rest and recuperate, I dream of a long, healthy life ahead. I’ve come through darkness into light, and I intend to bask in it. The story of Katniss, the potbelly pig, is not one of abandonment, but of resilience and the transformative power of compassion.
